Swedish perspective

Did the reasons for Swedish opt-out changed in the past years? Today's lecturer, dr Karolina Ekholm Deputy Governor at National Bank of Sweden, presented a bit of history and many insights at this topic. After many devaluations in 70's Sweden tried attach korona to ECU but this idea failed. This history of korona is one of the main reasons that Sweden didn't join the euro area (not having official opt-out like UK).
The most important date in the history of Swedish korona seems to be 1992, when Sveriges Riksbank (central bank) moved toward managed float regimen.

From the perspective of Ekholm the topic should be: "Reevaluation reasons for not entering the euro zone". Currently there is no support in Sweden for joining euro area. Recent survey showed almost  80% of the population against such idea. Many questions arose during hers presentation. Participants were asking about minorities, cultural background of Swedish success but also lowering the quality of Swedish education system, reactions in Sweden for OMT from EBC and idea of European Banking Union, and many others. Interesting thing was Ekholm's answer for the question about Human Capital. One of the participants was concerned about lowering level of this capital in Sweden. Ekholm commented that it's not all about personal effectiveness but the effectiveness of whole society and institutions. Honest, direct, answers appealed much to summer school participants.
